About the Rector!

Fr Gwilym Henry-Edwards was instituted and inducted as Rector of the parish on January 30th 2004.

Fr Gwilym formerly served at St Michael and All Angels' Church as Rector of the Parish of Henley Beach in the Diocese of Adelaide. Fr Gwilym is married to Sue, who works in the field of addictive substances research. Their two sons, Aneurin and Rhodri are independent adults living in Adelaide. Their daughter, Gaynor, is in Sydney with Sue and Fr Gwilym, and began Year 11 of her schooling in 2004.

Although born in Manchester in the UK, Fr Gwilym was just 2 years old when his family emigrated to Australia and has considered Adelaide home since childhood. Before his ordination to the priesthood in 1989, Fr Gwilym worked as a secondary school teacher for several years before retraining as a surveyor. Fr Gwilym worked on a number of major civil engineering projects in Adelaide and in PNG through the 1980's.

In the latter half of the 1980's Fr Gwilym undertook theological studies at St Bamabas College, Flinders University and Adelaide College of Divinity. He was ordained a priest in 1989 and began a short period as Assistant at St Columba's, Hawthorn (SA), before taking charge of the Parish of Parafield

Gardens in 1991. After four years, he moved to St Michael and All Angels, Henley Beach (a suburb of Adelaide) where he remained until moving to Sydney and St Luke's. In his Vocation, Fr Gwilym has a strong record of community involvement, particularly in the areas of prevention of domestic violence and the use of social capital for community building. His interests include sailing and opera, steam railway travel and vintage cars.

He also keeps two chickens. Their names are Perpetua and Felicity, and they lay an egg each a day.
