NEXT SUNDAY 19th Feb – At 9.30am we will be hold­ing a Ser­vice for Recon­cili­ation and Understanding.

Our guest speak­er will be Jen­nifer New­man, a proud First Nations per­son.  Jen­nifer grew up in Nar­rom­ine, NSW; des­cen­ded from long lines of Wir­ad­juri and Aus­trali­an yarn spin­ners, Jen­nifer lives by the Cooks River on Wangal Coun­try, where she con­trib­utes to loc­al Abori­gin­al and Torres Strait Islander for­ums and river care groups.  Jen­nifer is a mem­ber of the NSW Civil and Admin­is­trat­ive Tribunal and has delivered Abori­gin­al Stud­ies talks and courses for loc­al and inter­na­tion­al uni­ver­sit­ies, train­ing centres and com­munity groups. Knit­ting stor­ies togeth­er, Jen­nifer strives for recog­ni­tion and con­nec­tions neces­sary to walk togeth­er com­fort­ably with care and respect on Abori­gin­al land.

Par­ish Office Hours change:  From Monday 6th Feb­ru­ary the office days and times have changed to Tues­day 9.15am — 3.00pm, Wed­nes­day 9.15am — 2.15pm, & Thursday 9.15am — 3.00pm.  The office will be closed on Monday, Fri­day, Sat­urday & Sunday.

Palm Crosses Needed: Please remem­ber to bring in your palm crosses from last year.  We will burn these to make the ash on Shrove Tues­day for our Ash Wed­nes­day services.

Stud­ies to be held on Wed­nes­days after 10.30am ser­vice and morn­ing tea; and Monday nights at 7.30pm online via Zoom.

Pan­cakes at the Rect­ory – 7pm on Tues­day 21st Feb:  Fr Jeff and Michelle invite parish­ion­ers and their rel­at­ives to the Rect­ory to share in the tra­di­tion of eat­ing pan­cakes on Shrove Tues­day as a pre­curs­or to the begin­ning of Lent the fol­low­ing day (Ash Wed­nes­day).  Fr Jeff is the pan­cake maker for this spe­cial occa­sion.  Please come, and though not neces­sary, a filling/topping for some pan­cakes would be most wel­come. Please RSVP so that Fr Jeff knows how many pan­cakes to make.

Lead­er: The Rev’d Ron­ald Hende­r­son OGS.

The church and grounds of St John’s Bal­main, Spring Street, Birch­grove.  Gath­er for cof­fee /conversation at 10 00 am.  Great­er Silence from 10.15 am until 4.15 pm.  Morn­ing and Even­ing Pray­er; the Holy Euchar­ist; two brief addresses; oppor­tun­ity for indi­vidu­al con­sulta­tion with lead­er; rest in the garden and loc­al park.

The Quiet Day is free of charge.  Par­ti­cipants are asked to bring their own packed lunches.  Tea and cof­fee provided.  All very welcome.

If you are an office bear­er, would you please sub­mit your report/s to the Par­ish Office by email, on or before Sunday 19th Febas the col­lated final edi­tion should be in the hands of parish­ion­ers the week pri­or to the AGM, Sunday 26 February.

And in accord­ance with Dio­ces­an pro­ced­ure, the date of the AGM will be affixed to the entrance doors to the church, two weeks pri­or to the meeting.

The film is fam­ous for its lead char­ac­ters, mem­or­able lines, and per­vas­ive theme song.  Accord­ing to Wiki­pe­dia, it con­sist­ently ranks near the top of lists of the greatest films in his­tory.  In 1989, the United States Lib­rary of Con­gress selec­ted the film as one of the first to be pre­served for being “cul­tur­ally, his­tor­ic­ally, or aes­thet­ic­ally significant”.

Sat­urday 25th March – NSW State Elec­tions: The Elect­or­al Office is hir­ing our hall from 3 p.m. Fri­day 24th to mid­night on 25th March.  This will be a good oppor­tun­ity for us to hold a saus­age sizzle and pos­sibly a cake stall.  It will also bene­fit our Opshop.  More news later about times and what you might be able to help with.  Watch this space!

Food for our worms – Leave your worm food gifts at church on Sundays or drop off dur­ing the week.  Please remem­ber to remove the strings from teabags.  (NB — no dairy, cit­rus, onions or meat please).  Worm cast­ings are avail­able.  See Fr Jeff.
