Worship at St Luke’s
Worship at St Luke’s is based around the Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion or The Lord’s Supper.

When we meet for worship on Sunday mornings we sing, hear bible readings, hear a talk from the priest or special guest preacher to help apply the bible readings to our lives, we pray for the world in all its needs, and then we gather to receive the bread and wine. At our gatherings the priest and his assistants wear traditional robes, there are candles on the altar, and we use A Prayer Book for Australia for our liturgy (prayers). We are very traditional in that we also use incense and sanctuary bells. This tradition helps us in coming before God in the beauty of holiness to quote one of our hymns. We aim to be very welcoming towards all newcomers to help them get the most from our times of worship as we come into Gods presence together. We also provide a beautiful morning tea afterwards if you can stay on afterwards.

Service Times:
Sundays: Sung Eucharist @ 9:30am
Wednesdays: Spoken Eucharist & Healing Prayers @ 10:30am in the Augustine Chapel

St Luke’s Organ
The pipe organ situated in Christ Church, now St Luke’s, is by Wordsworth and Maskell of Leeds, UK. It is the only example of the builders work in Australia and is therefore of national significance and is now a heritage-listed item.
The instrument was built in 1883 in Leeds and after being transported to Sydney was erected by local organ builders, Layton Brothers of Newtown. It was opened on 4 January 1884.

The organ was restored to full working order in 2011 following grants
from the Heritage Council of New South Wales and Marrickville Council. A
tax-deductible fund was set up and managed by OHTA (Organ Historical Trust of
Australia). Dr Kelvin Hastie, OAM was appointed consultant for the restoration
with Kathy Drummond the project manager.
The second stage of the restoration involved rediapering of the 31 façade pipes. The patterns on the pipes had previously been painted over to blend in with the church walls. They were restored to their original decorations by Lyell Rosenzweig of Tanunda (SA) and reinstalled in the organ in 2018.

A more in-depth history of the organ, organ builders, organists and organ blowers may be found in A History of the Historic Wordsworth & Maskell Pipe Organ of 1883 St Luke’s Anglican Church Enmore, NSW published on the occasion of the completion of the restoration 2018.
The book is available from St Luke’s Church Office ($15), includes a short history of the church.

Baptisms at St Luke’s

Baptism is an entry into God’s Family, the Church. Baptism with water signifies the cleansing from sin that Jesus’s death made possible and the new life that God gives us through the Holy Spirit.
In joining God’s Family, it is important to become familiar with the local church in which you want to be baptised and grow in faith.
We recommend attending one of our services at St Luke’s and making yourself known to our clergy and church community as you inquire about baptism.
As an Anglican church, we baptise both adults who wish to affirm their faith and also the children of believers.
If you would like to get baptised or have your child baptised, please contact us Ph: 9557 4219 or make yourself known at one of our weekly services so we can arrange a time to discuss your plans.
Weddings at St Luke’s

St Luke’s is a beautiful church in which to be married.
Because we are an Anglican Church, marriages cannot be conducted by non-Anglican clergy or by secular wedding celebrants at St Luke’s.
Those who come to St Luke’s for a wedding will need to undertake some preparation. Preparing for marriage is a lot of fun and a significant investment of a small amount of time before entering into a lifetime relationship.
If you want to find out more about being married in our parish, please call the office Ph: 9557 4219, or send an email through the website.
