Series at St James’ King Street called “Progress and Purpose”
The old progress narratives are looking ever more like magical thinking, especially to young people. Is there a straight and narrow way that leads onward and upward, if only we could find it? Or are we on a spiral into planetary crisis and global conflict? In this season of renewal and resurgent life, the St James’ Institute addresses the indicators of brokenness and approaching collapse and enquires into the dream of balance, the nature of human failure, and the stories we tell about where we are going, and what we are reaching for.
Variety of dates and topics.
Facing Climate Change: 6:30–8pm, Thursday 22nd October, St James’ King Street and online.
If climate change is an existential threat to the living world, what does the Word who made and still makes the world offer in the Christian Scriptures – diagnosing the root issue, describing righteous responses, encouraging the faithful?
Andrew Errington is rector of Newtown & Erskineville Anglican Church, a biblical ethicist, and member of the Sydney Diocese’s Social Issues Committee.

The Revd John Bunyan has a very limited number (30) of his latest book, Around The Broad Land: Prayers and Readings for the Circling Year. It has 268 pages, with 500 Scripture passages (2/3rds AV and 1/3rd RSV-based & including 40 BCP psalms with annotations), 200 collects and other traditional prayers, simple forms of Matins & Evensong. John has paid for the printing.
These books, are numbered and signed, and are available for donations of at least $100 to send via ABM to the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem.
The money is for Al-Alhi Hospital, founded by CMS in 1882, and the only Christian hospital in Gaza, with no income from nor connection with the Hamas authorities. Details of this small but very important hospital are on the diocesan web-site. Even our small gifts will give encouragement to those who care for young and old, sick, wounded, traumatised, or dying, in very difficult circumstances, and show that our Church in the “Holy Land” is not forgotten.
